Mission Statement
To reclaim yoga from wellness trends and its modern positioning as exercise.
To re-establish it as a sacred art-form, a practice of self-study, inseparable from, and attuned to, the living world of nature.
The Silent School teaches students how to listen to the landscape of their bodies and the natural world, leading them to a place of autonomy and connection.
Meet Isobel
My two great loves are movement and nature. They have shaped every aspect of my life, and been the key threads leading me onwards.
During a decade of exploration and self-study I stumbled across the teachings and philosophy of Vanda Scaravelli. I felt a deep and instant resonance.
Finally, a practice that recognised our inherent power as physical beings inseparable from the beauty and grace of nature.
Why The Silent School?
Silence as the Primary Instruction
In this model, the instructor does not "teach" in the traditional sense of transferring information. Instead, they model deep listening. Students are invited to shift their attention from an external authority towards their own sensations and the constant environmental feedback that surrounds them. We begin with listening, cultivating the inner and outer silence necessary to hear nature’s ancient instructions and trust the body’s innate intelligence.
Nature as the Syllabus
The "lessons" are derived from observing natural laws rather than memorising poses.
Gravity: Surrendering the body into the earth.
Breath: The breath is the prime mover, not a mechanical tool.
Movement: Movement as an inherent response, not an active muscular contraction.
Restraint: The discipline of non-interference.
The Student as the Authority
The ultimate result of this silent, nature-based approach is embodied autonomy. When the only voice heard is the body’s own feedback loop and the landscape’s physical reality, the student realises they possess all the data needed to self-correct. They stop asking "Is this right?" and start asking "What does my body need to move with the least resistance and most life?" This transforms them from a passive recipient of instruction into an active, self-guiding practitioner.
